Recent security breaches of the Chevy Impala, Toyota Prius, Ford Escape and Jeep Cherokee have underlined an industry-wide challenge regarding software vulnerabilities in automotive technology. Open Source, increasingly adopted for vehicles, has the potential to deliver faster development and better security than traditional proprietary software. However, turning the potential of Open Source into reality can be challenging, and recent research shows an average of more than 22 Open Source component vulnerabilities in every application. This talk will explore how we can address Open Source security in practical, effective ways for mission-critical devices like cars.
